WEBVTT 00:11.399 --> 00:13.566 I think it's really easy when we're in 00:13.566 --> 00:15.810 the middle of dealing with our task on 00:15.819 --> 00:18.041 our computers , it's easy to disconnect 00:18.041 --> 00:20.208 and not realize what's really in front 00:20.208 --> 00:22.097 of us and being out here with our 00:22.097 --> 00:24.097 teammates and actually , you know , 00:24.097 --> 00:26.097 communicating face to face and just 00:26.097 --> 00:28.100 hands on experience is unmatched 00:30.360 --> 00:32.900 as far as comparing this to online 00:32.909 --> 00:35.110 opportunities . This far exceeds that 00:35.119 --> 00:37.175 right ? Anytime we can be out in the 00:37.175 --> 00:39.230 elements and actually feel something 00:39.230 --> 00:41.230 and not be in front of a monitor is 00:41.230 --> 00:43.759 wonderful . Today , we're at uh the 00:43.770 --> 00:45.860 volunteer training site in Lovely 00:45.869 --> 00:48.810 Tullahoma , Tennessee , uh where we are 00:48.819 --> 00:51.650 participating in the exercise , unkind 00:51.659 --> 00:54.009 treachery uh out here doing some ready 00:54.020 --> 00:56.610 airmen training in the field , unkind 00:56.619 --> 01:00.200 treachery really at its core is 01:00.209 --> 01:03.279 about morale . The ready airmen 01:03.290 --> 01:05.779 training is , is critical as the air 01:05.790 --> 01:07.790 force transitions . And we begin to 01:07.790 --> 01:09.901 think about great power competition . 01:09.901 --> 01:12.012 And when that , when that directive , 01:12.012 --> 01:14.610 you know , emerged , we had some uh 01:14.639 --> 01:17.059 some full time guardsmen that said , 01:17.069 --> 01:19.510 hey , here's a way we could do this , 01:20.029 --> 01:22.140 get us away from some of the computer 01:22.140 --> 01:23.973 based training , do some of this 01:23.973 --> 01:26.140 training in the field , build morale , 01:26.199 --> 01:28.379 really reconnect with what it means to 01:28.389 --> 01:32.199 be in the uniform . Yes . So the idea 01:32.209 --> 01:35.360 for unkind treachery came from um a 01:35.370 --> 01:37.809 major Logan and myself , we had been at 01:37.819 --> 01:39.875 different units before that had done 01:39.875 --> 01:42.097 this for a morale event . Um We kind of 01:42.097 --> 01:44.152 took that idea and applied it to the 01:44.152 --> 01:46.208 rat training . Uh The purpose of the 01:46.208 --> 01:48.097 exercise is to complete those rat 01:48.097 --> 01:50.208 requirements in a field environment . 01:50.208 --> 01:52.208 So to give it a deployed field . So 01:52.208 --> 01:54.430 some of the components that we're doing 01:54.430 --> 01:56.239 is land navigation , weapons , 01:56.250 --> 01:58.819 Familiarization , patrolling basics , 01:58.930 --> 02:01.400 base defense , we're doing uxo 02:01.410 --> 02:03.521 identification and then we threw in a 02:03.521 --> 02:05.577 couple of morale events like the air 02:05.577 --> 02:08.720 assault course . So about 90% 02:08.729 --> 02:10.340 completion of all of our rat 02:10.340 --> 02:12.396 requirements are done in the field . 02:12.396 --> 02:16.130 This week , I would say the online 02:16.139 --> 02:19.720 part was informative 02:20.250 --> 02:22.460 but obviously being out here and doing 02:22.470 --> 02:26.080 it is a much different experience even 02:26.089 --> 02:29.919 though we do intelligence and may not 02:29.929 --> 02:32.880 ever see war , you just never know . 02:33.330 --> 02:35.441 And I think this is a good experience 02:35.441 --> 02:38.750 to kind of get your mind ready for 02:38.759 --> 02:41.289 something like that . So for unkind 02:41.300 --> 02:42.856 treachery , I took a lot of 02:42.856 --> 02:45.022 coordinations . So for this event , we 02:45.022 --> 02:47.078 have over eight different components 02:47.078 --> 02:49.610 assisting us and providing support our 02:49.619 --> 02:51.730 own security forces squadrons helping 02:51.730 --> 02:53.675 us out . We've got medics from our 02:53.675 --> 02:56.250 medical group . We also have other 02:56.259 --> 02:58.481 people coordinating from Knoxville . So 02:58.481 --> 03:00.592 we have Knoxville search and rescue . 03:00.592 --> 03:02.759 We have Knoxville Sear instructor down 03:02.759 --> 03:05.949 here as well as all the volunteer site 03:05.990 --> 03:07.990 staff that has helped us coordinate 03:07.990 --> 03:09.768 this event . So about a year of 03:09.768 --> 03:11.712 planning and coordinating with all 03:11.712 --> 03:13.712 these units , no matter if you're a 03:13.712 --> 03:15.712 cyber unit , an intel unit , an ops 03:15.712 --> 03:17.657 unit , you can all do this type of 03:17.657 --> 03:19.157 training . It's definitely 03:19.157 --> 03:21.379 accomplishable . It just takes a lot of 03:21.379 --> 03:23.546 leg work on the front end . But if you 03:23.546 --> 03:25.657 plan this out two years in advance or 03:25.657 --> 03:27.768 so you can get your people out in the 03:27.768 --> 03:30.101 field and give them beneficial training . 03:32.559 --> 03:35.000 Contrary , 24 has been a wild success 03:35.320 --> 03:37.820 and I know this from talking to my 03:37.830 --> 03:40.000 people , talking to the , the leads , 03:40.009 --> 03:42.750 the team leads , talking to , uh you 03:42.759 --> 03:44.981 know , our senior enlisted , our junior 03:44.981 --> 03:47.789 enlisted again , the turnout , right ? 03:47.800 --> 03:49.800 Just the number of people that were 03:49.800 --> 03:52.022 willing to take time off from work come 03:52.022 --> 03:54.189 out here and participate . It's been a 03:54.189 --> 03:56.189 wild success . We've gotten several 03:56.189 --> 03:58.189 comments about just the camaraderie 03:58.189 --> 04:00.467 that people have experienced this week . 04:00.467 --> 04:03.360 Um getting to know people better . 04:03.369 --> 04:06.869 Now the underlying reality is we're 04:06.880 --> 04:09.047 getting all that ready airmen training 04:09.047 --> 04:11.158 completed . All right , we're getting 04:11.158 --> 04:13.380 fantastic classes , training instead of 04:13.380 --> 04:15.602 computer based training . We're , we're 04:15.602 --> 04:17.765 getting field experience . Um So it's 04:17.774 --> 04:19.830 been , it's been a wild success just 04:19.830 --> 04:21.718 from talking to the people in our 04:21.718 --> 04:23.941 squadron from seeing the training being 04:23.941 --> 04:26.052 a part of the training , getting that 04:26.052 --> 04:28.218 accomplished and just again , building 04:28.218 --> 04:30.441 that camaraderie and that sense of team 04:30.441 --> 04:32.107 unity . Uh that's so critical 04:36.540 --> 04:38.589 part of it . Yeah .
