New First Sergeant in Nashville

Master Sgt. Mike W. Parson has been named the new 118th Wing first sergeant. as of Dec. 6, 2015 at Berry Field Air National Guard Base. Parson first joined the military on Nov. 25, 1992. As a member of the Army, he served as a combat medic, military police, and field artillery. Between 2002 - 2005 he deployed four consecutive times, and upon returning from his fourth deployment, was sent directly to New Orleans to assist with the recovery from hurricane Katrina.

Parson transitioned into the Air National Guard in October 2005. He joined the 164th Airlift Wing where he served in security forces. In June 2014 Parson was named first sergeant of the mission support group. During a visit to Nashville, Tenn. he was introduced to members of the 118th. Through the relationships he made there, Parson decided to make the move to Berry Field. "I am always up for a new challenge," says Parson.

Parson was chosen to be the 118th Wing first sergeant in December 2015. In reference to his new position Parson says, "It doesn't matter if you are traditional, full time, or what... a first sergeant is a first sergeant is a first sergeant... I'm here for everyone regardless of [drill] status." said Parson, "I want to be with the people. That's what the diamond represents, being available for people."
